Product Launch Tracker: HCPs reignited conversation around the FDA’s clearance of Traumagel

During October 2024, CREATION.co tracked the global conversations of 1,531 healthcare professionals (HCPs) who posted 2,194 times about the launches and approvals of new products.

HCP mentions of product launches on X in october

On 15 August, Cresilon received FDA 510(k) clearance for Traumagel, a medical device designed to rapidly stop bleeding when applied to traumatic wounds and severe injuries. Following the announcement, only 9 HCPs posted about the FDA’s clearance of Traumagel inAugust. In October, 2 months later, there was a spike in Traumagel mentions as 144 HCPs posted 146 times on X.

This delayed reaction was triggered by a post by Cardiothoracic Surgeon, Zain Khalpey, which was reposted 127 times by HCPs. Khalpey highlighted how Traumagel could be “vital for first responders, military personnel, and remote care.” While Khalpey effectively resparked the conversation around the FDA’s clearance of Traumagel, Pediatric Emergency Consultant, Maryam Nabhan, also drew attention to the fact that Traumagel is “fast and effective”, perceiving the device as “amazing.”

 

On 03 October the FDA approved Bristol Myers Squibb’s nivolumab, for the treatment of resectable non-small cell lung cancer, following the results of the CHECKMATE 816 and CHECKMATE 77T trials. 33 HCPs in 41 posts shared about the approval on X. Medical Oncologist, Iván González, celebrated the approval while acknowledging nivolumab to be “a promising option for stage IIA-IIIB NSCLC patients.”

On 25 October, the FDA approved Iterum Therapeutics’ Orlynvah for the treatment of uncomplicated UTIs in women who have limited oral antibacterial treatment options. 58 HCPs posted about the approval of Orlynvah in 65 posts. Pharmacists,

Julie Ann Justo and Bassam Ghanem, celebrated the approval and highlighted that Orlynvah is the “first oral carbapenem” to be approved and the “the second FDA-approved treatment for uUTIs in 2 decades.”

The three most shared stories from HCPs discussing product launches in October were:

  1. An FDA approval post on X about Traumagel for traumatic wounds, bleeding and severe injuries  – 128 HCP posts gaining 222,966 impressions.
  2. An FDA press release announcing the approval of neoadjuvant/adjuvant nivolumab for resectable non-small cell lung cancer – 43 HCP posts gaining 162,271 impressions.
  3. An FDA press release announcing the approval of Orlynvah for uncomplicated urinary tract infections in adult women who have limited or no alternative oral antibiotic treatment options – 35 HCP posts gaining 446,169 impressions.

Methodology

  • CREATION Pinpoint® listened to the discussions amongst online HCPs of pharmaceutical product launches and drug approvals between 1 October and 31 October 2024.  
  • The data included mentions of drug approvals by the FDA, EMA, MHRA, NICE, and CHMP, as well as HCPs’ use of the phrase ‘drug approval’ in their posts.
  • Between 1 and 31 October 2024, 1,531 online HCPs worldwide made 2,194 references to new pharmaceutical product launches and drug approvals.
